Securing high-quality electrical balance of systems (eBOS) components for solar projects may be simple for the largest EPCs with established in-house design staff, lawyers, and logisticians. But that’s often not the case for smaller EPCs with tight timelines and limited staff, where schedule delays can mean missing out on the next project.
A complete eBOS supply solution for utility-scale solar projects
To help ease those hurdles for the small utility-scale solar market, Ampacity expanded its supply scope to include solar eBOS materials in addition to trackers and foundation piles. The company currently offers cable, terminations, arrestors, splices, sectionalizing cabinets, fiber, and more, coupled with end-to-end project design, engineering, and commissioning support.
“We stock the inventory to absorb the supply chain, and we pre-engineer the standardized equipment so customers don’t have to guess whether things are going to be compatible or not,” said Tyler Doering, Manager of Electrical Design.
Solar eBOS design, procurement, and installation support
Pre-engineering and full project lifecycle support is especially helpful when designing the DC collection portion of a solar array, which requires detailed, site-specific considerations to make the best procurement decisions. Ampacity is uniquely prepared to take on this challenge with its intimate structural knowledge of solar sites.
“We make electrical procurement easy for small utility solar projects, especially when we already have all the structural project data in hand, including site layout and row spacing,” said Tony Modenessi, Electrical Program Director. “We can help take another procurement decision off the plate of solar contractors.”
Ampacity’s electrical procurement team includes some of the best former superintendents in the field, who know firsthand about the biggest installation pain points and seek to solve them.
“We pride ourselves on exceeding expectations in customer service support, whether that’s working closely with customers to standardize stock around their projects and industry needs or exploring elevated offerings like onsite delivery support to handle any issues in real time,” said Rachael Balala, Electrical Sales Manager. “We’re always looking for new ways to make sure your project stays on track, and we’re just getting started.”
Ampacity offers small utility solar clients the high-touch customer service typically reserved for only the largest contractors.
“You’ve got experts at every single step, saying, ‘Yes, we’ll include zip ties, and we know that everybody forgets the dielectric grease, so we threw some of that into the box too. And here’s your dedicated project manager if you encounter any issues,’” Modenessi said.
The future of standardized solar eBOS solutions
Ampacity has only just begun to simplify the eBOS side of solar projects and has more plans in the works to standardize the process, including bringing as much pre-kitting as possible to the electrical side of the business. The company has pioneered row-level kitting for solar tracker components, now a standard offering that cuts down on both installation time and lost parts in the field.
“We provide EPCs the ability to build more projects, because we eliminate the schedule delays that can occur from lack of supply chain considerations from companies that are very much design-focused or manufacturing-focused,” Modenessi said. “We are supply-chain-focused. And we do that with design and installation in mind.”
